Update for the week ending on Friday, Sep 26, 2025
mtlynch.io
- Wrote “Get xkcd Cartoons at 2x Resolution”
Refactoring English
- Worked with two freelance blog editing clients.
- Continued working on “The Software Essays that Shaped Me”
- Worked on setting up custom emails to customers after they purchase.
- This is surprisingly hard with Stripe purchase links!
- The only way I could figure out how to do it was to spin up a server running custom code and point to it from Stripe’s webhooks.
- Doubled my prices for freelance editing
- Single blog post: $200 -> $400
- High-level review: $250 -> $500
- I feel like I’ve learned what I need from freelance clients, so I’m trying to reduce the number I take on.
- I’m planning to offer some deal like you get an 80% discount if you finish the book, so I can see how well people learn from the book.
streamablize
- Support ad-hoc trimming the start/end of a video
zarchiver
zarchiver is a file archiving tool I’m writing to practice Zig. It’s basically me implementing my own zip file format.
- Read the file signature
- Serialized the file signature
- Added a file format version
- Implemented a mock implementation of
std.Io.Random
Misc
- Suggested unit tests for the Roku Jellyfin client
- Visited friends in NJ
- Gave a company a hard time about suppressing customer reviews
